Beijing, China,found the U.S. Men’s Olympic Soccer Team fighting bravely only to loose 2-1 against Nigeria at the Beijing Worker’s Stadium before an audience of 48,096. The goalkeeper, Brad Guzan, made a last minute frenzied effort to score the equaliser but it just did not happen The U.S. team felt that they still had a chance to win if the Netherlands failed to beat Japan. Coach Nowak said the loss was disappointing. Soccer can be a cruel game at times; Coach Peter Nowak was overheard commenting.

The Nigerian team-mates Chinedu Obasi and Victor Obinna gave the team the lead when they scored their goals. The team, faced with sustained pressure, broke through the U.S. defence in the 39 th minute individual flair by Victor Obinna. Victor found himself alone against Parkhurst but managed his way round his mark and slotted a pass across the goal. Team captain, Promise Isaac, found a gap between Guzan, and Rogers tapped home the first goal of the match.

The whole match took place in about 89 minutes but it was the best 89 minutes in the Olympics, said many of the soccer fans. They felt like the match showed the greatness of both teams. The U.S. team, even though they lost, still stood out as great players on board. Coach Peter Nowak can go home proud of all his team players.
