Four Reasons Why Newcastle Are Not in a Position to Challenge the Big Four

In the nineties, Newcastle rose to the top under the leadership of 'King Kev.' Players like Ferdinand, Asprilla, and Ginola shone on the pitch and wore Newcastle colours proudly. Today, it is at the top of the English Premier League for something very different - the biggest under-achieving club in the league.

They first need to learn how to talk to their fans. When clubs fail to talk to their fans, rumours start and things get ugly. For example, rumours have surfaced that Anil Ambani or Profitable group will be taking over the club and there hasn't been one official statement made by Newcastle. Transfer spending has also been kept quiet.

Newcastle needs to loosen up on the purse strings. Ashley withheld funds from Allardyce in order to give it to the new manager Kevin Keegan. Because Keegan needed to get a feel for the team, he saved the money during the January transfers. During this transfer, he's only spent £15 million. If you want to win, you have to shell out for bigger players.

Newcastle needs to learn the difference between the good players and the benchwarmers. Allan Smith and Shola Ameobi are a bad choice for any Premier team. For Newcastle who is seeking a win, it was a deadly mistake. They could have saved their money to buy one good player instead of cheaping out. More doesn't mean better!

Newcastle and its fans need to face reality. With their current line up, there is no way you can expect them to be a serious threat to the big four. Newcastle will be in the first spot someday, but it certainly isn't this year. If they can straighten out their first three problems, they will get the backing and support they need to get there.
